Things I stopped buying to save money and it feels so good!

It was a beautiful afternoon, right after I went shopping that I came to my senses. A moment of realization: I was spending too much money on things I didn’t need.

yup, I was there.

Doing impulse spending like crazy – unnecessary spending.

Identifying where you’re going wrong, the negative financial impact it’s causing, and how to fix it is crucial. Not setting priorities and buying things you don’t need will eventually:

  • Affect your savings and retirement fund
  • Hinder investments you could be making
  • Run you into debt (if you use credit cards)
  • Clutter your home
  • Cultivate poor spending habits
  • Drive you one step further from becoming financially free

And the list goes on.

I became aware. I called myself out about it and I made the decision- I stopped buying things I didn’t need.

In fact, I became really intentional about spending wisely while trying to save money.

I want you guys to be mindful of your spending habits so you can save more money.

Now let’s get into the things I stopped buying to save money.

THINGS I STOPPED BUYING

  1. Cable subscription– If you should do the math, those monthly subscription can rack you up a good change at the end of the year.
How about using Ustv247? It has over 80 channels of live tv, for free! Watch news, movies, cartoon for kids without paying a dime.

Additionally, I use this firestick to widen my options as to what to watch as I can manage downloads (my favorite is Cinema). Plus you have free movie sites on the internet! Cable? What’s that again?
  2. Too much clothesstop buying clothes you dont need

Trust me when I say I was spending so much money on clothes/shoes. To date, I still have clothes with tags from 2019! (Early 2019 to be exact).

These days, ya girl don’t do those ‘shop until you drop’ things anymore. I’m trying to be smart with my money.

Don’t get me wrong. I love clothes and I like having something for any occasion I’m to attend (and I do), but, I now shop with intention, rather than just buying a bunch of clothes for the sake of just ‘liking them’. Get what I mean?

What do you spend your money on that’s unnecessary?

3. Fast food or eating out too often

Home-cooked meals are the best. Even though it’s ok to go out and eat sometimes, eating out too often can cost you and affect your finances.

I’m not the one to say you shouldn’t eat out any at all, because I do. BUT, I just limit the number of times I eat out.

I mostly cook at home (which I love to do) and it helps me and my family to save money and increase our finances.

Therefore, just try to discipline yourself and place a limit on eating out. You may also check out this cookbook with over 800 easy-to-make recipes!

4. Excessive amount of Makeup

I love makeup but I figured I was buying some unnecessary items I didn’t even use/need. Instead, I limit my makeup purchases by getting good items that I mostly use and love that last me quite a while.

Additionally, I start treating my skin better. Being that we are in a DIY era, skincare using natural remedies at home does work wonderfully (glow baby glow). This way, you can even use less makeup which saves you money.

5. Gym membership

A gym membership can be costly. Sometimes you don’t even make it there for the entire week! I work out at home which is much more convenient and more affordable.

In fact, you can get this at-home gym starter kit with a knee mat, jump rope, resistant bands, wheel roller kit, and more, just to get you started.

6. Upgrading gadgets

I stopped spending money on constantly upgrading gadgets (phones especially).

How expensive it would be to keep upgrading every single time new version releases?

We can save WAY more money if we do not feel the need for these consistent upgrades.

Things you should stop buying to save money

7. Too much drink/juice from the store.

Whilst I will still buy drink/juice from the store. To save money, I limit the amount I buy for the month and sometimes make my own juice at home. It’s healthy, quick and easy if you want to save more money. I love making smoothies as well and that’s why I bought the amazing Nutri-bullet that does the trick.

8. Spa visits

Spa visits are so relaxing as it takes you to a place of total solace and rejuvenation. However, the cost of going to the spa every week isn’t cheap, especially if you’re trying to save money.

Although everyone deserves a spa day, it all has to do with the frequency since you are seeking ways to save.

I’m all about self-care (both body and mind), however, find other unique ways to relax your mind and body. You can find amazing self-care day ideas here.

9. I stopped wasting money on cheap items.

Quality over quantity all the way. I stopped wasting money on things that arent durable. I rather buy something that lasts me a while longer as I end up spending less, other than buying the same item a million times.

In conclusion, these are things I stopped buying to save money. You can do it too. Remember, your financial situation is your priority. Discipline yourself on how to spend wisely.
