How do you do a self-care checklist?
A self care checklist is basically a list of things to do to take care of yourself. This can mean different areas of your life. So for me, I write a list of self care activities I want to implement and choose which day(s) I’d do those things. Mind you, some things on the list can be done daily since they’re really simple. You’ll see what I mean as you read along.
On top of that, I try to stick to this routine. So let’s get straight into this self care checklist for adults.
The Self Care Checklist You Need To Have
Physical
- Practice healthy eating.
Try your best to eat healthily. This will help you to feel and look good. Remember what they always say, ‘health is wealth’.
2. Get enough rest.
As we know, sleep is extremely important for our bodily functions. When I don’t get enough sleep, I feel so sluggish, dragged, and lack energy. Try to go to bed at a certain time and stick to that routine. In fact, add this to your daily self-care checklist.
3. Make sure to exercise.
Exercise is good for your health. Join the gym, get a skipping rope, go for a walk or jog around your neighborhood. Just keep your body moving. You can even have a fun physical activity that you do as your hobby.
4. Take pride in your physical appearance.
Your physical appearance matters. Always try to look your best. I feel much more confident when I know I dress well, get my hair done, etc. Book a facial or nail appointment, visit your dentist, do your makeup, devote yourself to skincare, and so on. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it.
5. Get a regular medical check-up.
It’s imperative that we do a regular checkup to make sure we are doing good. It’s our bodies/lives so let it be our priority.
Emotional
6. Laugh a whole lot.
I’m sure you’ve heard the proverb that laughter is the best medicine. Spend the most time around people that make you laugh. Go to a stand-up comedy show or watch comedies on YouTube. Don’t stop cracking up!
7. Show yourself respect.
Raise your standards, know your boundaries, value your principles and morals, know your worth and stand firm in what you believe.
8. Learn how to manage stress.
Always try to talk to someone if you feel stressed. This may be a friend, family, partner, or Therapist. You can also do breathing exercises, squeeze a stress ball and pray.
9. Be expressive about how you feel.
Do not practice bottling up your emotions. If you are poor at communication, then you can try to start opening up (in fact, take this as a sign). Share how you truly feel inside. Being transparent feels so much better!
10. Don’t feel bad about saying no.
Sometimes we feel guilty for saying no to people about one thing or the other. But, practice letting goes of that guilt. It’s ok to say no. It’s your life, your choice, and your decision. You have to do what’s right for you.
11. Take time to reflect.
It’s good to sit, sip a cup of coffee/tea and reflect on happy things. Practice doing this often. Not only will it put a smile on your face but you’ll start to feel more grateful, even for the little things.
Social
12. Meet new people.
Some people are so skeptical when it comes to making new friends and I totally get it. However, you may be open to meeting new people, networking, and having some fun. (in a careful way of course)
13. Join a group.
Join a group that aligns with something you love. It can be fun sharing with others and hearing different perspectives as well. There are so many Facebook groups you can join.
14. Stay in touch.
Keep connected with your family and friends, although sometimes life has us all busy. Send a text, or give them a call.
15. Take a trip.
Who doesn’t love a good trip? Whether road trips with friends and family or baecation, taking trips can ease your mind from daily hassles.
16. Ask for help and offer to help.
We all need help and a shoulder to lean on at some point. We literally can’t go through life alone. If you feel the need to reach out and ask for help, then go right ahead because that’s totally fine. On the other side of things if you see where you can offer help to someone in need, then do that too.

Spiritual
17. Practice Meditation.
Another on the self-care routine checklist is Meditation. Meditation is so good to ease your mind of all the hassle you endure daily. Spend some time alone clearing and decluttering your thoughts. Think about things you are grateful for in the process.
18. Observe your thoughts.
You can do this in meditation mode when you are laying in bed in the dark when you are having a warm shower or whatever the case may be. Someone once told me that pop-up thoughts are really important to evaluate where your mind is.
19. Pray every day.
This should go without saying but sometimes life gets so busy that really and truly, we forget to pray. However, make it a priority to utter a few words of prayer throughout the day and it will become a lifestyle.
20. Remember your values, morals, and priorities.
Do not lower your standards, try to fit in, compete or feel bad about yourself. Always refer to what you stand for, love who you are, and value your morals.
21. Participate in a cause.
If you are passionate about something for one reason or another, then you can support that cause in some way. For example, donating to the less fortunate, running in a 5k, etc.
Psychological
22. Learn something new.
We are never too old to learn. Therefore, never stop learning and exploring. Conduct research, visit new places, ask questions, and read! (which brings us to the next point actually…)
23. Read more books.
“A room without books is like a body without a soul”
– Cicero
24. Practice patience every single day.
Patience is a virtue, try to be patient with yourself and others. I’m still learning patience myself.
25. Make sure you get some alone time.
Hello? You need to spend time alone. Introverts will understand this assignment. Alone time is needed to meet with yourself, think things through, do some evaluation, meditate, cook your favorite meal, light a scented candle, and relax your mind (get what I mean?)…yea
26. Do something creative and fun.
Of course, some people might be more creative than others, but I truly believe creativity is inside all of us. Get on your creative side, do something even if you haven’t done it before and have fun while you’re at it! For example, attend a sip-and-paint event.
27. Have a no-screen hour.
The moment we wake up we reach for our phones. Sounds familiar? Try to limit screen time and go easy on the eyes. Set aside an hour in the day when you know it’s a no-screen hour.
28. Challenge yourself to a goal.
Always dream big and believe in yourself to achieve your goal. Work hard, evaluate your progress, celebrate small wins and stay motivated. We all want to feel a sense of accomplishment. Our goals also help in your growth.
